The phrase “Fun in 4th Grade” certainly holds true at St. John Fisher School. Students always seem eager to get to class. ready for the school day to begin. They approach each day with the positive thinking of a growth mindset:
Making mistakes means I’m learning Nothing is Impossible Never give up I am Determined to do this Stay focused on the goal. It might not be Easy, but it is worth it Whether I Think I can’t, I can. I’m right.
Daily lessons are rigorous, enhanced by their new Sadlier Math series and Loyola Press Voyages Grammar and Writing series. Students enjoy special classes in Spanish, Computer, Music and PE. They also look forward to Mondays and Thursdays in the Middle School science lab. Focusing on California history and government, Social Studies classes come to life through field trips to the Banning Museum and Mission San Juan Capistrano, local Native American tribe projects, building missions models on Mission Building Day, and a day-long California Day enrichment with hands-on activities and performances, organized by the class parents.
In class, they eagerly anticipate their reading workshop flexible seating, adding marbles to the Vocab Jar, and participating in their classroom economy, especially paydays, where they get paid class cash for doing their classroom jobs and bonus brain work.
